Hosts Spain to open World Cup against Argentina

IFCPF and host organisation FEDPC are proud to announce the schedule for the 2019 IFCPF World Cup in Seville. The tournament opens on Saturday the 6th of July with a match between Argentina (ranked 5th) and hosts Spain. The opening match will be played on the natural grass field inside the stadium of the Ramon Cisneros venue of Seville Football Club. The final will also be played in that venue, which seats around 5,000 spectators. 


World Ranking leaders and defending 2017 World Championships and 2018 European Championships silver medallists Ukraine are placed in the same group as Argentina and Spain, the start their quest for World Cup gold against World nr. 10 Australia. The match between the two highest ranked teams in Group C (Ukraine and Argentina) will conclude pool play on the 11th of July. 


Group B also features three Top-10 countries as USA (4), Ireland (6) and Iran (9) will meet. Ireland will open Group B play on Monday July 8th against the fourth country in this group Finland. USA and Iran will lock horns on the same evening. 


The 2015 World Championships winners and 2018 European Champions Russia have a tough pairing with the Netherlands in Group D, both teams will be up against eachother on Thursday evening July 11th. Thailand will start play of Group D with a match against Russia, Canada will take on the Netherlands on Sunday the 7th.


Last but not least, World 2nd ranked and 2018 Americas Championships gold medallists Brazil will have a South American battle to start their World Cup experience. Venezuela, who qualified through the Americas Championships, are the opponent in the Group A match on Monday July 8th. European hopes England and Germany face off on that day as well. The conclusion of Group A will be between Brazil and England on Friday the 12th.

Finals

The top two countries in each group will advance to the quarter finals, which will be played on Saturday and Sunday the 13th and 14th of July. The semi-finals will be played on the 16th, together with matches for the places 5-8.

The final matches for the places 5-8 will be played on Thursday the 18th of July, followed by the medal matches on the 19th to conclude the 2019 IFCPF World Cup in Seville.
