Denmark to host 2027 IFCPF European Championships
NewsKorsรธr will welcome Europe's CP Football nations in July 2027, bringing international competition to Denmark and creating new opportunities to grow the sport across the region.
The International Federation of CP Football (IFCPF) and Parasport Danmark are pleased to announce that Korsør, Denmark, will host the 2027 IFCPF European Championships from 24 July to 5 August 2027.
The Championships will bring national teams from across Europe together for nearly two weeks of international football, with men's and women's competitions included in the proposed tournament programme.
The event will be delivered by Parasport Danmark in partnership with IFCPF, supported by FC Storebælt, Slagelse Municipality and the Danish Football Association (DBU).
The announcement comes just days after the conclusion of the 2026 IFCPF Men's and Women's World Cups in the United States, where the world's leading CP Football nations competed at the highest level.
With the global spotlight now turning towards the next cycle of international competition, Denmark will provide an important stage for Europe's national teams to continue developing, competing and building towards the future.
Building the future of European CP Football
The 2027 European Championships are expected to attract between eight and ten men's national teams, with plans for a women's competition involving four to eight nations. Final participation numbers, competition formats and match schedules will be confirmed in due course.
For IFCPF, the Championships represent another important opportunity to strengthen international competition pathways, expand opportunities for athletes and support the continued growth of CP Football across Europe.
IFCPF CEO Ashley Hammond said the Championships would build on the momentum generated by the 2026 World Cups
.
"Following an extraordinary World Cup in the United States, we're already looking ahead to the next opportunity for our athletes and national teams to compete on the international stage," Hammond said.
"Europe has a proud history in CP Football, and these Championships are an important part of strengthening that competitive pathway while creating opportunities for the next
generation of players.
"We're particularly encouraged by the ambition of our Danish partners to use this event to grow participation, strengthen national programmes and create a lasting legacy beyond the tournament itself.
"We look forward to working with Parasport Danmark, DBU and the local organising partners to deliver another outstanding international event in 2027."
A championship with ambitions beyond the pitch
For Parasport Danmark, the ambition extends well beyond the nearly two weeks of international competition.
Hosting the Championships presents an opportunity to raise awareness of CP Football, attract new participants and strengthen the connections between local clubs, national programmes and the international game.
John Petersson, President of Parasport Danmark, said:
"We are very much looking forward to welcoming CP football players from across Europe to Denmark. Hosting an international championship on home soil is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the sport and create memorable experiences for both players
and spectators.
"But our ambitions go further. We hope the European Championships will serve as a catalyst for introducing more people to CP Football and creating even better opportunities
to play and develop within the sport in Denmark. If we succeed, the Championships can leave a lasting legacy for many years to come."
Korsør ready to welcome Europe
The Championships will be centred around Korsør, with local facilities and the football community providing the foundation for the international event.
Slagelse Municipality has a strong connection to parasport, having previously hosted the European Powerchair Floorball Championships in 2024.
Knud Vincents, Mayor of Slagelse Municipality, said:
"We are proud that Korsør will once again host an international sporting event, just as we did with the European Powerchair Floorball Championships in 2024.
"Bringing the European CP Football Championships to Korsør underlines the strong position of parasport and inclusive sport in Slagelse Municipality. The Championships also recognise the many volunteers, dedicated individuals and sports clubs that have built a
strong sporting community over the years.
"We look forward to welcoming Europe once again, and we hope that local residents, associations and businesses will help create an unforgettable experience for players, coaches and visitors."
Strengthening the Danish football pathway
CP Football is a shared strategic priority in the partnership between Parasport Danmark and the Danish Football Association.
The Championships provide an opportunity to translate that commitment into greater visibility, increased participation and stronger development pathways for players with
cerebral palsy and other eligible neurological impairments.
Andreas Høj, Director of Communications & Governance at DBU, said:
"The wonderful sense of community that football creates should be open to everyone who wants to take part. Everyone should have the opportunity to find their place on a team. Naturally, this also applies to people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities.
"Together with Parasport Danmark, we want to develop CP Football in Denmark. Hosting the European Championships gives us the opportunity to turn our ambitions into action.
"We must use the attention surrounding the tournament to bring more players onto the pitches, involve more clubs and create stronger foundations for CP football in the future.
Because football should be for everyone, even after the final whistle of the European Championships."
Strong local roots, international ambitions
FC Storebælt has played a central role in bringing the Championships to Korsør and continues to contribute to the development of Danish CP Football through its involvement
in national team activities and local football pathways.
The club will be an important partner in delivering the Championships, drawing on its facilities, volunteers and established connection to the local football community.
Rune Ravn, Chairman of FC Storebælt, said:
"It is a tremendous achievement to be able to welcome CP Football players from across Europe to Korsør.
"We have worked hard to develop the sport, and Len Nossell, our outgoing Head of the CP Football Department, deserves special recognition. Through his extraordinary commitment and strong network, both nationally and internationally, he has been an
invaluable driving force – not least in bringing the European Championships to Korsør.
"We now look forward to filling the pitches with international football, and hopefully the Championships will empower even more people to put on their football boots and become part of the community."
Looking ahead to 2027
The provisional competition programme includes men's group-stage matches beginning on 27 July, followed by semi-finals on 2 August and the final on 4 August.
The proposed women's programme includes group-stage matches from 28 July, with the final scheduled for 3 August.
Further information regarding participating nations, competition formats, confirmed fixtures and tournament activities will be announced by IFCPF and the local organisers in the lead-up to the Championships.
