2020 Updates to CP Football rules

News

The International Federation of Cerebral Palsy Football (IFCPF) is pleased to share the recently updated 'IFCPF - Modifications to the Laws of the Game - 2020' and 'IFCPF - Competition Rules - 2020', which alongside the International Football Association Board (IFAB) Laws of the Game, form the sport rules for CP Football. These updates are applicable from 1st January 2020.

Key updates for 2020

For 2020, a number of changes have been made and approved including:

  • CP Football (Female) sport rule amendments: IFCPF have introduced additional modifications for the development of CP Football (Female), introducing a 5-a-side format to support growth in participation and a structure for competition.
  • Temporary Concussion Substitutions (TCS): Alongside the new IFCPF TCS Policy, the new sport rules support medical team officials in evaluating suspected concussions.
  • Extra Time substitutes: To support teams and players when matches are played for up to and more than 80 minutes, and give more playing opportunities for substitutes, one additional substitute will be allowed to be used when matches go into two extra time periods.
  • Temperature and Altitude Countermeasures: Appreciating the diverse nature and locations of our events, IFCPF have included additional guidelines to protect players around extreme temperatures and acclimatisation.

Where do these updates come from?

Throughout the year, and during IFCPF sanctioned competitions, IFCPF receives important feedback and proposals from players, coaches, team officials and IFCPF personnel.

IFCPF tasks the IFCPF Technical Committee with reviewing all suggestions and new ideas; consulting with members, partners and other IFCPF committees, functional areas and relevant experts. Once agreed, both documents are finalised by the IFCPF Management Team and then approved by the IFCPF Board.

We are extremely grateful to all the experts who feed into the process, who include coaches, referees, classifiers, medics, technical delegates and players.
