Hammond stars, USA account for hosts Uruguay
A Shea Hammond goal inside the opening minute set the tone for a strong United States of America performance, defeating Uruguay 15-0.
Hammond's first goal of four came inside 40 seconds, before Jacob Kaplan doubled the lead less than a minute later.
It took another 12 minutes before the Americans breached Uruguay's defences again, Jacob Crumbley's rocket unstoppable at Facundo Echeverrรญa's front post. It kick-started the team back into a goalscoring groove, with Adam Ballou, Ben Lindau, and Hammond (twice) all contributing to the USA lead in short order.
Kaplan, Lindau and Crumbley (twice) all tallied again as the half-time break neared, the score 11-0 at the interval.
Kyle Montgomery's first international goal was a second-half highlight, with Kevin McCandlsh joining Ballou and Crumbley finding the net in the final 30 minutes.
Despite the result, Uruguay's players were roundly applauded off the pitch in their first international match, with Cristian Lastra among those who were emotional after the final whistle. Bruno Viera's leadership was on show, and the celebrations from the Uruguay fans were palpable.
The United States of America will next feature on Tuesday against Argentina, while Uruguay will play the same opponent tomorrow.
