Chile complete comeback to take bronze

Despite trailing 4-3 late in second half stoppage time, Chile has fought back to finish third at the IFCPF World Championships, defeating Italy 6-4 after extra time.

Goals from Darwin Diaz and Bastian Velazquez after normal time proved pivotal after Patricio Saavedra drew his country level late against Italy for the second time in the tournament.

Italy led 3-1 at half-time after the returning Gianluca Li Vecchi and Simon Xanina both scored, with a Javier Encisa own goal completing the scoring in the first half after Diaz opened it at the right end.

Saavedra's first goal in his brace and a great strike from Alexis Pavez restored parity at 3-3, before Leonardo Nacci looked to have won it with a goal from just forward of halfway.

Chile's captain had other ideas, bundling home to send the game to extra time, before the ball ricocheted off Diaz as Andrea Valenti tried to clear to put Chile in front three minutes after the restart.

Velazquez then completed the scoring to seal the win, giving Chile an improbable win. Italy's Daniele Beccegato was later named Goalkeeper of the Tournament, having made some brilliant saves.
