Italy 2-2 Chile

Francisco Saavedra's late equaliser earned his team a point, after Italy had two players sent off.

Saavedra bundled home the rebound after Darwin Diaz's header hit the crossbar in the third minute of second-half added time, after an immense spell of pressure from his team.

The scoring started in the ninth minute when a wonderful free-kick from Thomas Valenzuela found its way in, but Italy would respond with two goals in under four minutes from Antonio Marigliano, including one from outside the box.

Italy had both Gianluca Li Vecchi and Simon Xanina sent off for violent conduct in the second half, and despite some wonderful saves from goalkeeper Daniele Beccegato to keep Italy in front, Chile's number 11 broke the resistance. Chile and Italy both play tomorrow against South Korea and Northern Ireland respectively.

Northern Ireland 0-3 Scotland

Three goals from Martin Hickman propelled Scotland to a 3-0 win over Northern Ireland.

Scotland dominated possession early, but it took until the 25th minute for them to breach a gallant Northern Ireland defence, Hickman located with a wonderful cross from Matthew Wynne before he headed home.

The second came nine minutes after half-time, Scotland's number three gliding past a Northern Ireland defender before exquisitely curling the ball into the bottom left corner from outside the box.

Hickman then completed his hat-trick with a low shot after cutting in from the Scotland left, becoming the first player to score a World Championships hat-trick in this tournament. After a 3-0 loss, Northern Ireland captain Jordan Walker and his team will play Italy, while Scotland will face South Korea.
