News

The Deodoro Stadium hosted the final day of Football 7-a-side as Netherlands took on hosts Brazil for the Bronze medal. Brazil finished 4th in Beijing 2008 and London 2012 and were keen to get a medal infront of their partisan home crowd.

14:00 - Bronze Medal - NED 1 - 3 BRA

GONCALVES DO AMARAL took the lead for Brazil after just 40 seconds in the first attack of the game.

The game however remained in deadlock remaining 1-0 to Brazil through the half-time break up until the 49th minute.

GONCALVES DO AMARAL took a shot from distance, finding the net to make it 2-0 to Brazil and looking to have put Brazil on the podium.

However, in the 54th minute, a long ball into the box flicked on by SCHUITERT brought the Netherlands back into the game, reminding both teams that the bronze medal did not belong to Brazil yet.

Shortly after, GONCALVES DO AMARAL replied to complete his hat-trick and surely confirm the Bronze medal for Brazil.

17:00 - Gold Medal - UKR 2 - 1 IRI

The final of Football 7-a-side featured the best two teams in the tournament, going head to head for the gold medal. Ukraine Gold medal winners in 2004 and 2008, were hoping to improve on their Silver medal from four years ago; they faced Iran who were yet to concede a goal in open play.

Four minutes into extra time, KRASYLNYKOV put Ukraine back infront through some lovely play from ROMANCHUK. Despite strong attemepts from both sides, Ukraine held the score at 2-1 to win the Gold medal.
