Day Six Recap: Finland leave it late, Australia stay perfect

News

Finland's late winner ensured qualification to the IFCPF Women's World Cup semi-finals, defeating Japan 2-1.

Both teams knew a win would be enough, and just as the half-time approached, Mai Ohta got the opener, winning the ball back and scoring from distance.

After the break, Finland came out the stronger of the two sides, and got a deserved leveller, with substitute Venla Salo giving Ville Salinen's team renewed hope.

Without those hopes dying down heading into second-half stoppage time, Isabella Alaraasakka created a winner from nothing, her corner on target and unable to be kept out by Aika Sasaki.

At their first IFCPF Women's World Cup, Finland took their moment when it came, creating joyous scenes after the full-time whistle.

Elsewhere, Australia defeated the Netherlands 13-0, maintaining its perfect record at this IFCPF Women's World Cup.

A first-half hat-trick for Annmarie De Uriarte gave the current World Cup champions a foundation, with Trinity McPhie coming off the bench to grab one of her own in the second half.

A brace for Eva Walsh helped Ireland continue its impressive turnaround at the tournament, beating Colombia 3-0 for its second win in a row.
