Netherlands, Russia, Argentina and Ukraine stay unbeaten

News

The Monday excitement, where USA beat Iran in a coming-from-behind match, had just been processed, when Tuesday kicked off with the first matches of the second round of Group play. Russia and the Netherlands got in their second victories of the tournament and are both without conceded goals on top of Group D. In Group C both Ukraine and Argentina reached six points from two matches, as they beat Spain and Australia respectively.

First up were the Netherlands and Thailand, a match that was very competed from the beginning till the end.

Thailand are clearly one of the nice surprises in this World Cup doing excellent work and having some good opportunities at the beginning of the second half. However, the experience and hard work of the oranges gave them the chance to open the score at 45 minutes thanks to Luc Pierre. After this Thailand was unable to keep competing and two more goals were conceded before the end. A deserved victory for the Netherlands.

Russia are the 2018 European champions and have come to Seville with just one goal in mind: getting the World Cup title. In their second match against Canada Russia continue their victory pathway. Both teams used the match to test and practice as still the difference is high between these two teams.

Two goals scored by Eloev Marat and Alexeis Borkin were enough to decide the match with the final 0-4. Canada will now face it's most important match in the group versus Thailand. Russia will face the Netherlands on Thursday to see who will be the best in Group D.

Argentina and Ukraine keep reign of Group C

Ukraine had an easy win over hosts Spain. The defense of Ukraine didn't give one chance to the Spanish attackers and scored six times in the first half. After some substitutions in both teams the game in the second developed to a victory for Ukraine 10-0.

Argentina had outplayed Spain on the opening day of the 2019 World Cup with 7-0, on Tuesday they were faced with a better equiped Australia. The Pararoos gave it their all, but that wasn't enough to get them close to victory. Argentina had the best opportunities but the Australian's goalkeeper had some great saves. Nevertheless Argentina scored the first goal. After the 0-2 in the second half Australia came back with a great shot. 1-2. Before Australia could put Argentina under pressure they caused a penalty. Argentina also scored a 4th goal. Final result 1-4.
